The Happy Egg Co. expands into frozen food with ready-to-cook omelettes
The Happy Egg Co., under Noble Foods, launches frozen ready-to-cook omelettes in Morrisons from January 2025, combining free-range eggs with advanced freezing tech to meet consumer demand for convenient, protein-rich meals.
The Happy Egg Co., a prominent UK egg brand under Noble Foods, is set to enter the frozen food market with a new series of ready-to-cook frozen omelettes, available from January 2025 in Morrisons stores across the UK. This launch marks a significant diversification for the company, which aims to meet rising consumer demand for convenient, protein-rich meal solutions that fit modern, busy lifestyles.
The new omelette range, offered in packs of two and four, features free-range eggs from The Happy Egg Co., complemented by British extra mature cheddar and milk. Available in both original and cheese flavours, the products are designed for versatile preparation methods, including microwaves, ovens, and increasingly popular air fryers. This caters to consumer preferences while maintaining the traditional light and fluffy texture that omelette enthusiasts expect. The move follows research indicating that 60% of consumers find making fresh omelettes inconvenient, highlighting a clear market opportunity for ready-made options.
Noble Foods has invested heavily in its innovation and manufacturing hub in Leicestershire, which leverages advanced freezing technology through collaboration with refrigeration specialist Starfrost. The Helix Spiral Freezers utilised in production enable a highly efficient, consistent, and quality-preserving freezing process, crucial for maintaining the omelettes’ texture and flavour during rapid freezing. According to Pete Robertson, Project and Engineering Manager at Noble Foods, the Starfrost system is versatile and user-friendly, allowing seamless switching between different products and recipes—an asset as the company expands its added-value offerings.
The launch of these frozen omelettes reflects broader trends within the food industry, where convenience-focused breakfast solutions and protein-rich snacks are increasingly sought after by health-conscious consumers. The frozen food sector, in particular, is witnessing a surge in innovation, with brands investing in technology not only to improve product quality but also to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
The Happy Egg Co.'s approach aligns with this trajectory, positioning itself as an innovator within the traditional egg production space by blending advanced freezing technology with a strong focus on animal welfare and ingredient quality. This move also echoes similar investments seen in other sectors of the food industry, such as Mackie’s of Scotland, an award-winning ice cream producer that has integrated CO₂-based Helix spiral freezers from Starfrost to boost both product consistency and environmental sustainability.
Anita Nutchey, Head of Marketing and Innovation at Noble Foods, frames the frozen omelette launch as more than a product introduction. Speaking on behalf of the company, she described it as a "bold step toward shaping the future of innovative and accessible foods," underscoring the company’s commitment to catering to modern consumer demands for nutritious, affordable, and convenient meals. The Leicester facility embodies this vision, incorporating cutting-edge manufacturing capabilities to support ongoing food innovation rooted in evolving consumer trends.
As The Happy Egg Co. expands its portfolio, the frozen omelette series offers a promising example of how traditional food producers can adapt in an increasingly convenience-driven market, blending heritage and technology to make nutritious eating easier and more accessible across the UK.
